Chainsaw Safety
Training Course

Through Safety Provision, INC., we offer a chainsaw training course that is Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) & Canadian Standards Association (CSA) compliant. This course includes chainsaw operations and maintenance certification. The course lasts 3 days in total. Two full days of classroom and field work are followed by a half-day of written and practical examinations. Participants who pass both examinations will get a Chainsaw Certification, which they may use in the workplace or to improve their skills with chainsaws. What does the course cover?

Safety/PPE

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when using tools and equipment in order to keep ourselves and others safe. Throughout the course, we will discuss the proper PPE required to safely operate chainsaws. We also take a look at chainsaw safety features and the potential dangers of using one.

Chainsaw Maintenance

In the logging industry, there is a saying that goes, "A sharp saw is a safe saw." Routine and proper maintenance will extend the life of a chainsaw, prevent breakdowns and accidents, and improve the efficiency of operations. This section will cover maintenance topics such as chain sharpening, inspections, and problem solving.

Safe Approach

We'll learn how to properly and safely prepare a tree for felling in the field. We'll talk about how to fell a tree in the right direction, how to avoid overhanging hazards, and how to plan escape routes.

Notching/Felling

Felling Techniques ​

A tree can be cut in a variety of ways. We'll go over the three basic notches for felling a​ tree, as well as how to leave proper hinge wood and use wedges properly. Each trainee will have the opportunity to practise bucking, and de-limbing before taking a practical test.
